During the design process, I toyed with a handful of symbols, both from Asian and Celtic cultures before I landed on this.

This time lapsed video, below, represents over 4 hours of work designing and refining. The celtic knot, wrapped around Dr. Li Wenliang, represents hope being squeezed out by the empire and his health constricted by the virus, among other things.
